i've noticed this for a while but never gathered enough energy to find out why.

so why do i see a pioneer inno lacking channels that an audiovox express has or vice versa?

same with sirius.

No radio is missing channels. Some dealer units have the XL channels blocked.

There's family plans as Murph mentioned, and then you can also encounter pre-activation demos that have 15 or so channels activated.

And if the XM/Sirius merger finally happens, you'll have A-La-Carte programming and different programming packages as well.
