I'm trying to install the car unit for a Pioneer Inno2, with the XM SureConnect feature. Question is: the FM antenna on the 05 buick lacrosse is not external, and the only information I can find is that it is called an "Element Antenna". Does this mean that it is built into the metal, or the glass?

If it's built into the metal, then I think I have to hardwire the sureconnect to the antenna plug on the back of the head unit.

Any help is appreciated.

The sure connect is poor quality. It comes with a window clip to put it as close as possible to the antenna in the glass.

Step up to an FM Direct. You will need 2 GM antenna adapters.

Thanks for the reply, Im trying to avoid overdoing it with this install. I just got back from radio shack with an fm modulator, gonna try that route... came across the suggestion on another forum - I'll let you know how it goes.

Ok Murph, I'll bite. I found this product:

http://store.xmfanstore.com/audiovox-fm-direct-adapter-xmfm1.html

The Audiovox XMFM1.

If I understand correctly, this goes inline with the car antenna, and is directly powered via a wire to an auto-on switch (presumably behind the cigarette lighter socket). Another wire then connects to the car cradle?

Will this still require the 2 gm antenna adapters you speak of? I've never uninstalled this head unit before (my girlfriend's) but I've done my own and plenty of friends' head unit installs before. I was just trying to avoid getting too invasive in her car.

By the way, the $11 dollar FM mod from radio shack didn't quite make the cut. It did work (Inno2 unit with Inno1 car kit), but the quality was horrible.

I hope it's the XM modulator and some generic modulator. If it's not XM you will get engine noise.

Wow you posted a second before me. Yes that is the unit you need. Best Buy has them for $30 and the antenna adapters for $12 each.

The XM unit used no power and goes in series with the unit and antenna. From there it also will go in series with the stock antenna.

Ok, I ordered 2 of these:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?...d=1077626938161

and the audiovox unit. So the car cradle will only have the xm antenna, and the line out (to the audiovox unit), and no power connection if I understand right.

Ill let you know how it goes. Thanks for the tips.

You don't need two of them. You need one forward and one reverse. I hate the internet sometimes. Go to a shop and people can help you get what you need.

Power will go from your lighter adapter to the socket that needs to be wires to switched power.

The sat antenna plugs into the FM direct. From there the FM direct has a Sat antenna wire that pugs into the Inno cradle.

The Fm direct also has a car antenna in and out. That will go inline with the cars antenna at the back of the radio.
