This is going to be LONG.
This is my 2007 Nissan Altima. The car was purchased and built with the sole intention of competing in IASCA and MECA Sound Quality competitions. To compete successfully you need a lot of help from a lot of people.
So I am going to start off listing the people who helped me last year, and then a list of people who are helping this year. There are some changes in those. It is no reflection on the company, the products of those company or otherwise. It is simply a change of direction. You never know until you try is a good way to look at it.
2007:
Hybrid Audio speakers were used in the car. Hybrid Audio L6 Midbass, Hybrid Audio L4 Midrange, and Hybrid Audio L1 Tweeters.
The Autophile Peter Lufrano offers the best customer support you can ever imagine. He has been invaluable
Genesis Amplifiers There are 4 Genesis Dual Mono Extreme's in the car. There are no steps up from these amplifiers. Nothing could be improved. Done deal.
Hooker Audio Hooker Audio Wiring is used throughout the car. Great products.
Powermaster Battery. great battery, great support.
BQuiet About 350 square feet of deadener were used in the car. It's quiet now.
Sounddomain the guys at sounddomain have been very helpful the last few years. I truly do appreciate the help.
Individuals:

Jeff Smith and James Stanton of Audio Deisgns of Atlanta for doing the install, and then putting up my with ass nitpicking stuff afterwards. I asked these guys to do an install that would 100% meet the rule books and take install out of the equation for competitions. I want to win or lose based on sound quality. They did exactly that. Great job guys.
Team Zapco-- This team drove me to do better all year long. Trying to keep up with them was an incredible task.
Matt Roberts-- Individually drove me harder than anyone else. The car was built to try and catch him. His truck is incredible. He sets the bar, the rest of us try to reach it.
George Garcia-- Another compeitor with an incredibly strong vehicle. He made me work harder to try and catch him also.
Terry and Debbie Floyd---Great friends. They have been holding shows and being every competitors friends forever. they were there when I lost every show and they are there now that I have a shot at some shows
There are more people and I'm sure I'll edit this, but that's enough for now.

I'll start off posting some final pictures, and then go back and post the build pictures. Entire install was done by Audio Designs of Atlanta. Jeff Smith and James Stanton did the work.
The Car:
The trunk. You can see the amp rack on the floor, and the sub enclosure hanging from the rear deck.
Processor and Fuse Rack. That is an Alpine H701 hidden inside a Genesis Amplifier heatsink. All efforts were taken to make it match the amplifers in the trunk, to include fake wiring coming from the amp's heatsink.
The Apillars. The Apillars hold two Hybrid Audio Legatia L1 tweeters. Two in each apillar. The tweeters were mounted behind the pillar, the pillar hand perforated, and the the pillars wrapped in black material. From the factory, the car was all black from the doors down, and all white from the doors up. Everything was redone to make the top half of the car black. including rewrapping the headliner and dying every piece of plastic:
The dash. You can see the Alpine W200 molded into the dash, and then in the cubby hole below you can see gauages for the Amplifier Temp and Amplifier voltage. The three switches control neon lighting (under the amp and processor), fans, and turn the gauges on/off.

Wooow!!! congrats!!! very nice!!!
I liked the way the trunk stayed near the original!!! Really congrats for you all!!! great job!!!
But... Where r the Tweeters????

Me either. that is going to be one of the big upgrades for this year. The Alpine HU is coming out and an Eclipse 7200Mkii will be going in. Should be really cool when done.

Great deadening pics Andy. That's a wonderful post on how to do things. Your car is amazing.
Is that one layer or multiple layers on the floor? Where did you double up? Did the layer(s) of deadening on the plastic door panel help with its resonance? That seems like a really good idea.
Since everything is contained into the cabin (subs in rear deck) was deadening your trunk walls and trunk floor necessary?

The Headunit install.
Started off with the factory HU. You can see the factory HU was molded in:
So the first thing I did was buy the trim piece that the car would have come with if it had navigation in it. That piece had a slightly larger than double din opening. I also bought the navigation brackets that held the factory navigation piece in.
This is the w200 bolted into the navigation brackets and in the trim piece:

Test fitting:
Then everything primered and texture coating beginning. The vents above the radio was sanded down and dyed to match this piece. So that all things were consistent:

Front mounted subs are awesome if you can get the correct volume for them, or you are willing to cut a hole and vent to the outside. Other than that I wouldn't do them.

Tweeters:
Ok this one is a bit weird. We used two Hybrid Audio L1 Tweeters per apillar. So there are 4 tweeters total in the car.
Here is a normal L1 tweeter:
The round flange on the tweeters was a no go. We needed the voice coils to be as close together as possible. The goal was for the speakers to work as one. I know there as a huge post on another forum that this would never work, and you would have to images. No one ever knew there were two tweeters per apillar. Ever.
this was done because of IASCA rules. Last year you had to do 110dbs of pink noise for RTA testing. before this car was built I watched someone blow a very very expensive pair of tweeters in the this part of the testing. I wanted to make sure I could get through that testing without blowing anything. So two tweeters were used. In the end, it was wasted. those tweeters are turned down as far as they can be--even for the RTA testing. They are very efficient little drivers. better safe than sorry though.
First thing was to square off the flanges, and the bond them together:
Wire them in parrellel and add female clips to the wires: the tweeters are 8 ohm each, so you have a 4 ohm total:
Factory apillar was then removed, the white material stripped off, and the plastic was hand perforated:
Tweeters were then secured to the back of the apillar with adhesive. Wiring was covered in tech flex, and labeled:
Apillar wrapped in black grill cloth and put back in:
The cool thing about this is that you can run your hands up and down the pillars and never tell where the tweeters are. they are completely invisible.

Door mounted midbass. I'll have to find more pictures of this but it is really basic. Hybrid Audio L6 7" midbass is mounted in the doors. Fire through the factory door speaker opening. You can see the deadening done to the doors above.
Factory door:

Baffle cut out in the shape of the factory speaker. you can see that the mounting points for the factory speaker and for the baffle are identical. So the baffle bolts to the door using factory connection points.
Final product--baffle covered in deadener, and security screws used to connect it. Factory door panel goes back over it:

I likes me a free air enclosure. So the goal was to have one.
Rear deck:
Now remember this is a 2007 vehicle. I bought it, drove it for 2 weeks and then delivered it to Audio Designs to begin the install. These next pictures freaked me out when I first saw them:
the motor assembly you see in that picture is of an Image Dynamics ID subwoofer. It was used for mock up purposes. This build started before the IDQv3 was released. We knew it was coming, just not whe.

the subs face down. The carpeted piece you see in the final picture is held on by a few screws. Take those out, that piece drops down and I can replace a sub if needed. Easy maintenace.
That is one of the things that will be changing soon most likely. Either I'm simply replacing the subs, or I'm having that entire thig rebuild for some 12's. Not sure yet.

Opps, forgot about the rear deck/grill:

It was wrapped in black carpet. No one that has seen it has thought it was anything but a factory rear deck. I have to point it out. The factory 3rd brake light is still there and operates as normal.
