There seems to be a lot of JL posts that are too good to be true.

Watch yourself on this and any forum. Follow the tips on how not to get scammed. Use a credit card through Pay Pal. Never ship a product to a stranger some form of prof. Get the name address and phone number. Check with other members and NEVER trust someone with a low post count and no feedback.

There's alot of scamers out there, I've been very lucky to say the lease, I've bought, sold, traded on here and Termpro over a hundred times and never had a problem. I like to talk to the person I'm dealing with but that's not a sure thing either.

So how are they doing this? Finding pics of products including usernames on other forums and than registering that exact same username (hopefully not taken) on another forum claiming that identity? Or do they really have the product and are just ripping people off?

Fear of scammers is pretty high, but then have to look at all the good people who are out there selling as well. Sorry to say that a few bad apples makes it tough to buy anything through the boards.
I'm in the market for some good components. Just started looking and have had some great advise from Keeping Hope Alive (said I might want to contact you IamMurph about what Ultra might have, sadly budget is only $300 max so looking used perhaps to see what I can get that is good).
Tough to trust sending that amount of money to someone you just happen to see post on a board. In the 80's would spend that on a night out and not think anything of it if someone zapped me for it. NOW, that same $300 means everything!
Anyway, on the JL Audio bit, I've been looking at quite a few manufacturer and authorized suppliers. All seem to be putting in big letters that they are authorized, no warranty for non and to be careful buying otherwise. The JL Audio site has a big write up about how with the economic climate that some of their authorized outlets have gone out of business. They tried to buy back what they could, but there were clearance houses buying also. So basically the market is a bit flooded with this "going out of business" product that is now being sold out through various places and will not be warranteed. Found it interesting that such a statement about warrantee and unauthorized sales was being made so prominent (sp?) as this flood of closed business closeout stock must be hurting authorized sales for many brands. Can't see how it could not until the supply dwindles and they can get back to business. Of course then they have the whole issue of rejected warrantees that will come in.
Hope it is okay to post the link (please change if not)to the site, but makes interesting reading. http://mobile.jlaudio.com/jlaudio_pages.php?page_id=111

Last competition system I built was with two Punch 150's, one Punch 45 and a Linear Runt. Four 15's in a semi wall, mids, midwoofers, tweets in a tiny 1979 Honda Civic. All bought new circa 1985-86. Wow it has been a while! Had many general systems since then though, but nothing as fun.
