Hey guys
I just got a JL 12W7v2 and a JL 1000/1 amp in an 04 grand cherokee. I am have serious headlight/interior light dimming with the sub as you might imagine. I am a novice when it comes to car audio. I was told a capacitor would fix this problem. What capacitor would you guys recommend and is it easy to install? (I know very little)

Yes, getting a capacitor will definitely help your light dimming problem. Adding a big three upgrade on top of that will probably almost completely eliminate the problem, but it's unlikely that you will get rid of it completely forever. Anyway, here are some good caps that I would recommend (you only need a 1 farad capacitor cuz you have 1k Watts):
This one is pretty basic and from a reliable company: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_9160_Audiobahn+ACAP4.html
Here is an upgraded version of that same one, with a digital voltage readout (this is the one I have in my car and I love it): http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_8975_Audiobahn+ACAP7P.html

Hey guys

I was told a capacitor would fix this problem. What capacitor would you guys recommend and is it easy to install? (I know very little) A capacitor is more like a band-aid than anything. It may fix a potential problem, but it's not the main problem. I would try to upgrade power/ground wire, if you can. Different batteries can also help...optima, kinetic, stinger e.t.c...something that's a deep cycle batt and maybe even a dry cell Those tend to get a little pricy though. A HO alt. with enough amps would definetely cure you problem, but once again can get costly. All depends on what you can afford, if you plan on adding anything to your setup, and really...what you want. I personally would get a new battery and upgrade necessary wires at the same time and go from there. Good luck

yes it is. And no, a battery will not fix this problem. A battery doesnt power the electrical system once the vehicle is running, the alternator does this job. A battery has 12.6 volts (? someone correct me on this one, i know im wrong but its around there) The alternator should be putting out around 14.4 volts to do its job correctly. Get a DMM and check the voltage drop when a deep bass note hits. IMO, capacitors arnt worth it

if its the 8 cylinder cherokee, it should have a 136 amp alternator in it. Do the big three first, sometimes it stops the dimming completly. Usually, with 1k watts rms, you can get away with the stock alternator. Lastly, what size wires are ran to the amp?

just buy 0 awg and do the big three. if you still have dimming add a higher output alternator

what envy said to do, is about all you can do. Do the 0awg, then do the big three. and if theres still noticable dimming your gona have to get a bigger alt.
