The cleansweep does exactly what it says it does. If you need it, then it is an excellent product.
The cleansweep is not a LOC only. Some factory HU's add in nondefeatable EQ curves. So if you change everything out, except the HU, you still have to deal with that EQ curve. The cleansweep goes in and flattens that EQ curve to give you a flat signal to work off of.
Do you need it? Depends on whether or not your HU has a built in EQ curve. Easiest way to find out is to take the outputs from your HU directly into an RTA and look at the curve. This is not putting a mic in the vehicle and measuring---you have to take the output from the HU directly inot the RTA. No mic.
If you have a curve, you need the cleansweep. If your output is flat, you don't. You can also call JL Audio. At one point they had a list of vehicles that had a built in curve. Not sure if they still do that or not.
If you don't have a curve built in, you just need a good LOC.
