I know Pyle is on the super duper no-no list. However I inherited a Pyle Marine amp and used it temporarily in my Jeep while made decisions on the front stage. I have to say, that little thing got drenched in a tornado (yes CT's first tornado in years) and when it was dried off the sucker still played. I'm sure it wasn't putting out the 120 watts per channel it promised but it did the job and survived the water. I'd easily use one on a jetski or a small boat just to gain some power.

In order to qualify as marine, it needs to have a board that is epoxy coated on all sides AFTER all the components have been soldered on. This keeps any water from chorting the closly mounted components. I wouldn't recommend hosing an amp off while it's running, as there are still connections on the outside of the amp that are very close together. The boards are coated to prevent any errant spray from blowing the power supply or output stage.

of note: the Sony CD-50FM is rated marine and has an epoxy coated board but the face is NOT coated and easily wears out. it was behind a weatherproof cover but the humidity of the storm ruined the board to the face.
sony sucks.

fresh - on a party barge!
now it has an Alpine in it that hasn't had a lick of trouble. plus we have a large gas grill cover we use for the console every day. no water ever gets on it now.

Yeah I guess Alpine found their products marine worthy if they came out with a marine line. You guys should put a link to that Alpine Marine beast here in the marine forum.

Alpine did not "find" their products marine worthy, they MADE a line of products that are marine worthy. They should be similar, but different enough to be protected from the harsh marine environments

^exactly - to be marine rated you need an epoxy coated pc board (preferably in the faceplate also). the buttons, seals, plating, etc. also come into play. anything that oxidizes easily is a no-no.
you can use non-marine products if the installation protects them from water and sunlight. even then the humidity and such can take it's toll.
