Which brand and model of headunit would you say has the best ipod interface? I'm looking for one that is really easy to use, and probably has a decent screen that is easy to read. I think i'd really prefer a headunit that has a screen made up of a bunch of pixels (monochromatic, or full color) than one that has a display like calculators have (I don't know the terminology, sorry). It would be for audio only. Which headunit would you recommend for the best ipod interface.

Thanks alot

Edit: I'm not looking for one of those big expensive fold out touch screen models. something similar to a normal headunit, just with a good ipod interface.

I have the Alpine CDA-9883 and it works really well with my ipod, has full speed capability (not quite as full speed as the actual ipod) and scolls through artists, albums, songs, genes you name it. Plus the price is definately reasonable. The one downside is it does have kinda a calculator look

9885 or 9887 has a better screen.

really the best for ipod is the alpine ida-x001. however, it doesn't have a cd player, so you'd need to get a cd changer if you wanted to play cd's.

no head unit will play the new nano or touch. Those will be out later, most likely after CES. They require the Apple Authentication chip, which has not been authorized for release by apple yet.

I do like the iDA-X001, I just wish the buttons and screen were reversed, with the screen on the drivers side. That way when you pressed the buttons, your hand wouldnt be blocking the screen at all. But anyways, my car's stock headunit has the tape player, display, and all the buttons in one unit, and underneath that is the CD player, and the eject CD button. It's like the CD player is a whole separate device that is just under the rest of it. Would I be able to use that as my CD player with the iDA-X001? The car is a '95 Camry, Idk if the CD connections have changed since then or anything like that. Any help would be greatly appriciated.

Also, I have a new 160gb classic, and I was unsure if it would work, but I read a thread over at ilounge.com that said they had the HU working perfectly with the classic.

The '95 Camry is a doubleDIN dash setup. You can mount any head unit in there. If it's SingleDIN you will need to purchase a pocket kit. You can use the factory brackets to mount your new HU. The harness is typical Toyota 10pin 6pin. That's one of the easiest cars to change the HU on.

Thank you very much. That is great to find out. Does that mean that the CD player that takes up the lower dinn is compatible with the Alpine HU?

no it isn't. That's actally a Fujitsu made CD player, for the Fujitsu made tape deck you have. It's only compatible with that tape deck, none others even made by Fujitsu. It's the predecessor of the current Eclipse-LAN. If you NEED a CD player, get the changer, Alpine's unit plays MP3 discs also, I'm pretty sure it's the only one that does.
