The girlfriend just got the Sportster 4 Sirius tuner with the vehicle dock for her car. Can I hardwire it using the cigarette lighter plug or do I have to buy this? Also, anyone know where to get the mini jack plug for the dock that plugs into a Toyota? \:confused\:

Find out if it's 5v or 12v first by looking at the back of the unit where the plug meets up.

it just means you can't simply cut off the cigarette adapter part and hardwire the 2 wires into your car...

if you're good w/ soldering and are confident you won't melt the plastic and mess up the internal stuff, solder wires onto the contacts of the cigarette adapter and hardwire that after you tape it up real good....

if not, buy this, plug your adapater in it and hardwire the other end.

the +12v center contact pin is sorta tough to do.....

if you hold your iron on it too long, it melts into the plastic and fux up access to the fuse and whatnots...

if i have to solder directly onto the cigarette adapter, i use a dremel and cut a notch into the side of the pin so i have something to wrap and hold the wire.

Nope, just thinking that if you ever road trip with someone else, you might want to take it with you in a different car. If you have soldered to the plug, you've screwed yourself.

Holy hell, I never even thought about that!! That is why you are the master and I am the student!! I'll probably go and pick up one of the plugs and try to hard wire it in under the dash somewhere, then hide all of the wires all stealthy like. Thanks for the info guys!!
